Dogs can live for 10 to 20 years.  Are you prepared to make the commitment to your furry family member through the good times and bad?  How will you ensure that your adoption is a success?

High quality dog food is always recommended for rescue dogs.  Are you prepared for the monthly costs?  Low quality foods are filled with filler and offer very little nutritional value.  We expect adopters to feed our SOHR dogs a good quality diet.

From an ear infection to a traumatic injury, can you afford emergency veterinary care?  Veterinary costs can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Financially, are you able to afford to provide your dog with emergency medical care?

Annual wellness exams, vaccinations, heartworm prevention, tick preventatives etc.   Will you be providing your dog with  annual basic veterinary care?

A properly socialized, well trained dog can make a safe, loyal, loving, and reliable companion for a family.  Investing in your dogs training is a must in order to adopt through us.  How will you ensure that your dog is well trained and socialized?

Many dogs require regular brushing, clipping and grooming.  All dogs require regular nail trims.  Are you prepared for these additional costs?

Dogs are social animals that require daily human contact, stimulation, exercise, and training.  Do you have enough time in your life to make your dog one of your daily priorities?  

Parents need to ensure their children know how to behave around dogs.  Even a friendly dog can bite if threatened, afraid or hurt.  How will you teach your children about respect so that the dog doesn't pay the ultimate price for a humans mistake?

95% of all bites are preventable.   As an owner you are ultimately responsible for your dog's behaviour and all of the safety issues regarding your pet.  Are you aware of the warning signs?What will you do to be proactive to prevent a dog bite from occuring?
